Managing Dilbert

Sock Wai buzzed me on IM.
We have been having intermittent problems with the hosting provider again. The server’s hard drive had crashed last week – illogical error apparently, and one or two of the technicians have been downright inane. I am about to loose my nerves with them {again!} for reverting with silly questions and telling us what needs done etcetera. I can blast someone bluntly – I am not shy, especially when I am correct. I have been in the business for far too long to notice ‘trivial’ incompetencies.
I can forgive, but when it comes to making excuses about services we’ve paid yearly in advance, I so am not tolerant. I do expect the best, as I expect the same from myself. I am unfortunately for some people, a perfectionist and do not take lightly to apologies. Apologies are given too lightly these days – I wonder if their other clients have the same problems or we’re the only ones beset with hardware failures.
We had a meeting Monday morning with the Secretary General – I’ve just sent him an assessment of myself {I could blow my own trumpet – I’ve never in my entire life working for more than 15 years been asked to write a self-assessment report on myself}.. I hope we launch soon – I am getting a tad tired waiting for things to happen. We could have launched last year but projects were implemented even before the Organization was registered. This is so not the way to do things. I’m hired as an IT person, so I best shut-up and not try to even teach people with 26 years of International Management experience.
To most, I am just the back-end person – to myself and a couple of others I’ve worked with prior joining the Organization, I know better.
In a world where politics have become a quotidian norm, conscience have become shadowed {for some!}.
Sock Wai dropped by.
He wanted to take me out to dinner – we had to discuss how to overcome the current back-end problem thanks to someone’s incompetency. I wanted to go out and just stay up late but we’ve got to pay our rent. I sometimes see myself suspended in mid-air amidst the stars at night, looking down into the hearts of men, and living in their cranials only to discover how limited these personalities are.
The matsu sashimi did me well tonight – and the ume nigiri take-away meant for breakfast tomorrow, has been gleefully eaten. One should always have natto at least once weekly. It is good for the body. It is a natural antioxidant, and with enough stress working in Malaysia, it’d do wonders.
I have to turn in early tonight – its getting really really hot for me – I’m burning again… this time more acute, like a spark igniting and ready for a blast-off. I’ll have to install the 2nd air-conditioning system in the apartment. Hopefully the 2.5HP machine will do wonders. I cannot work in this heat – I’m perspiring like a satay stick being burnt! If I still can’t sleep I might consider pixelizing the whole office!
No one will believe you solved this problem in one day! We’ve been working on it for months. Now, go act busy for a few weeks and I’ll let you know when it’s time to tell them. {R&D Supervisor, Minnesota Mining & Manufacturing /3M Corp.} – Dilbert
Goodnight people.. .it has been a tiring and trying week… ah and before I forget
… here’s wishing you a splendid and prosperous Gong Xi Fa Cai!
Hopefully tomorrow, if I wake up, it’ll be a better day
A+
