The Vatican’s official newspaper “L’Osservatore Romano”, has endorsed the possibility that the universe could contain intelligent life beyond Earth, while insisting that aliens would be “brothers” and “children of God” as much as human beings are.
Duh?
I am dismayed that the Pope would make such a statement and that His Excellency’s astronomer, José Gabriel Funes would even contemplate saying just as there is a multiplicity of creatures on Earth, so there could be other beings created by God.
EVERYTHING for Christ’s sake is a creation. … and there are others in the Universe, as there are the multitudes of undiscovered stars, and lifeforms!
Every otto species within the Universe are creations. Even scientists’ thoughts are created despite the fact that they do not believe in a divine system. However his recent reminder reinstating believers that revelation taught mankind was created in the image and likeness of God, and that the creation of man as the only creature on Earth that God has wanted for his own sake is almost valid. The creation of man is NOT the only valid reason as to why the Lord Created the Universe and the spaghetti networks within it, but I’m not here to argue with the Pope – albeit he was conscious when he made that statement.
Spiritual evolutions {or rather the involution of mankind} are revealed in stages – from birth to death, so too the evolution of the worlds we discover through our telescopes, and through histories. This involution itself is seen in the apparent as an evolution. How can a man of faith, like Pope Benedict XVI damned “evolutionary ideas” and support only intelligent design when evolutionary ideas itself is part parcel of the intelligent foundation of the Universe?
Involution is the process of change that is made evident in the apparent world{s}.
To be aware of higher reality while dealing with ordinary reality requires an effort of awareness, detachment, concentration and insight which are the result of long practice. Surely the Pope is aware of this, and that time spent during both involution and evolution molds one on the journey home.
Life is not only lived at the level of physical experience, nor only at the level of thought, nor only at the level of feeling, but also, and most importantly, at a still higher level of consciousness, where the self is no more the barrier separating reality from illusion.
