The Alchemist of the Soul

Version S3

When Electronic Arts first came out with SimCity, I was then on a Macintosh – colors were vibrant, structures were well defined and playing it took hours of my time just to ensure the perfect city with its populace never got bored.

There were no cheats then, and soon enough after trying really hard, not knowing much about gaming then, I almost gave up until EA Games came up with The Sims. I’m not the type to play with dolls or doll houses when growing up as a child – I felt that EA could have done better – the graphics were choppy, the characters were loud-mouthing the other in lingo only the Klingons could comprehend, and the sex scenes were carefully blurred. I almost got bored until, I found an online version similar to the Sims, before it was launched to the public some eleven odd years ago, when a European Publishing house released their beta. It was a beta, but it was a good 3D Virtual reality that took my world by storm.

I wanted to learn everything plausible and available then about 3D gaming architecture, the software used, the storyboard etcetera. I was dismayed because at the time, I didn’t have a Raptor, nor the TS10 least to say the Titan {I still don’t!} and rendering just the backdrop or rather the scenes became such a tedious love affair.

Soon, Electronic Arts will be releasing The Sims 3 – which promises more excitement, more defined characters, and interactivity – hopefully developers would have fused both online and desktop concept to a higher level and leverage gaming technology into an experience we will not forget over time.

Some features of Sims3 include character features which can be defined the way you want your characters to look like – yourself, your mum or even your fiancé! Your character can be a socialite, terrorist or even split-personae that drives everyone in your neighborhood crazy – you can easily designate characteristics on the inbuilt innovative trait system. Your homes need not look like an atypical American home anymore – you can design it the way you want and if you’re a budding architect or interior designer, you can give ‘life’ to your designs in Sims3.

What makes it even more interesting as compared to the previous versions – the Sims3 allows you, and your characters to explore the world outside your home. Visit the neighbors, have fun with them, make their lives comfier or annoy them to fits – you play the Puppet Meister – no longer are you coup up in your own neighborhood, you can connect with more neighborhoods, take a picnic in the park, and explore the worlds right at your fingertips.
