Years ago when I was Assistant Maitresse of L’Ecole Française de Kuala Lumpur, years before they had their own building… we didn’t have the Internet, and Teachers resources were scarce. We had to mainly churn our creativity and create what would be feasible to get the knowledge across to the Children at school. Happily, I was both a Teacher, and Assistant Teacher {for another subject} and found that my creativity was fully used. Coupled with a photocopying machine, I’d whip up activity books for children, and by the end of the week, had teachers clamoring for more. I was teaching Art then, and went from sculpture to painting, through papier mache to field visits just so *my* children had an exposure to the art they see and are could change their world, one stroke at a time.

Recently, a couple of teacher friends emailed and asked if I could help them out by pointing resources on the Internet – there are like a gazillion out there, but to find the really good ones, is quite painful – you’d need time, and patience. Well, for my Teacher friends out there, and perhaps you… here’s the List.

1/. You might be a teacher if …you wonder how some parents ever managed to reproduce – A great resourceful site for Teachers.

2/. Join research teams in Costa Rica and Mexico to learn about tropical forest ecosystems, the important roles of large and small animals within an ecosystem, and the threats to their survival. Teach and create awareness of the environment to your children – Immerse yourself in the Fun Lab

3/. Award Certificates for students and teachers, including Free printable certificates, awards, diplomas for spelling, math, language arts… something to encourage your children to greater heights.

4/. Think.com is a free, web based environment for primary and secondary students and teachers.  Students are given the tools and space to create and share their work online.

The task of the excellent teacher is to stimulate “apparently ordinary” people to unusual effort.  The tough problem is not in identifying winners:  it is in making winners out of ordinary people.
