15 Tools For The Serious Blogger

We would like to apologize for any inconvenience  caused just about a couple of hours ago. I was informed by the Engineers at the DataCentre, that something tripped, and the servers had to be scanned. After a couple of anguish moments{mostly on my end!} , the servers are up again. Hopefully I’ll be wealthier in a next couple of months to afford my own managed server, and be a naughty girl when machines fail to boot.

Meanwhile, bloggers might want to seriously consider these tips that could help a great deal before things go wrong with metal things that boys simply love to tinker with.

  • Text links are good but how good is good enough ? If a site has been penalized for whatever reason, and you’ve linked to it then chances for SEO could be detrimental to you. Always check, maintain and tracks your links – I just discovered one site I’ve reviewed is linked to some enticing content somewhere and though it’d be cause for worries, I’ve other better things in mind to think about! The Press is not shot just because a Messenger sends enticing news right? Try the Badlink Checker, and find out today!
  • Set up a Google Webmaster Account, verify your blog and use Google webmaster tools. Okay Chrome may not be the best transparency tool to have in your system, but a Webmaster account could help your site a great deal.
  • Do you write {blog} under a nickname? I’d suggest you start blogging under your real name {although it can be hip to have a pseudonym} the strengths in writing under your name spells and grants you a sense of responsibility for the things you blog about and publish; give your readers a clear idea of your interests and preoccupations and provides you a professional edge of becoming a well know name in a chosen field {even if its blogging about your daily rants!}
  • Can remember your blog{s} password? That’s ooh, not so good because with the number of crackers {and I’m not talking about my namesake cookies in red box} and stalkers who may take a fancy to you after discovering how popular you are online, you’d be safe to go with at least a 128bit password which when CTRL+C and +V into your password field would save you the day, and a lot of grievances.
  • Have you used TinyURL in any of your postings before? If so, you might seriously want to consider Cli.gs – A powerful URL shortening service that gives you access to analytics and detailed traffic information about your short URLs.

If you have any trouble sounding condescending, find a Unix user to show you how it’s done – Scott Adams

  • Meta Keywords may not be your in-thing but trust-me, its still legit if you’re maintaining a site. This particular one is quite interesting to look into and consider for your own blog. I’ve been using it since 1995 {then again, I know a good tool when I see one!}
  • Are you into podcasting? If you aren’t yet you might seriously want to consider having your text digitized – primarily for challenged readers – make your site reader friendly, and they’ll come back again and again, for all the natural goodness you’ve spent months creating!

  • You need tools to work the Web – not the kind with grease on it {Ewww} – YouGetSignal.com is a collection of network tools that Kirk Ouimet started working on in late September of 2007.
  • When your site goes down – even for a few short minutes – prospects, customers and clients go elsewhere and your sales go with them. Ohh.. don’t sulk – there are solutions out there, and one such is SiteUpTime, and WebMetrics.
  • Ping-O-Matic is a service to update different search engines that your blog has updated.

  • Have other media apart from YouTube and DailyMotion that needs to be embedded in your blog but don’t really know how? – The Embedded Media HTML Generator facilitates your online life by ninety-9 percent!
  • Want a free and powerful HTML-Email obfuscating tool that does what it says without you having to worry if your blog or site will have robots extracting and harvesting them? Download this freeware – it works wonders and is only 288k
  • Get some insight with your competition – enter your URL, along with other similar websites, to compare. It takes into account things like Google page rank, Alexa rank, number of Diggs your articles have, delicious bookmarks, and more social and blog stats.
  • Increase traffic from search engines, understand your visitors’ behavior, get complete analysis of revenues and sales conversions, and measure efficiency of ad campaigns.
  • If you’ve been around the Web neighbourhood, you’ve surely seen the number of gadgets {widgets} out there where others literally push content offering others to embed these on their website, blog or Facebook. Well, what are you waiting for? Grab Sprout, and get to design your own – add an image gallery, embed a youtube video, incorporate google docs and allow users to fill out a form, add a ChipIn donation module, and more.

  • Great article - may I suggest a tool that's great for providing a snapshop of many of the things you recommend? DNFrame is a new tool I started using last week. And thanks for the heads up on the other tools, I've added some to several areas ofDomain Information VToolbox.
