Tips To A Greater Logo
Fancy creating your own site, or company logo? If you can afford a designer – hire away. If you are frugal, or cannot afford one, follow these tips to a greater logo design.
- Always remember that your tagline need not necessary accompany your Logo – tagline is there to compliment, not to over-dress. A tagline is a tagline, a logo is a logo.
- Colours are good – Despite the fact that there are more than five colours in a rainbow…THREE colours are more than enough.
- Please do not use more than two fonts. If possible create your own set of fonts.
- Your logo should look GREAT in monochrome – if it’s not re-design the whole thing! It should also look good mirrored.
- Start sketching on paper, move to Adobe Illustrator and then get the opinion of three strangers – no matter how great your logo looks to you, asking feedback from your family, or friends defeats the purpose. Get professional feedback if possible.
- Create no more than three variations. Do not settle for just one design – create one today, the other two before settling down with the winning one.
- We’ve all heard of KISS – well use that when designing your Logo.
- Your logo must be balanced, simple to describe and … easily remembered.
- Make it small, and possibly design it in a square frame. When creating your logo, create hi-resolution vector, and then resize it before using it.
- Do consider where your logo will be used – stationery, promotional items, media kits, publication etcetera.
